The process begins with the rug design.
Rug designs are drawn on graph paper so that I can reproduce the design & color on the loom.

Once a design is created, the dyeing process begins. Outdoors in a large stainless steel pot on a propane cooker wools are dyed with natural dyestuffs. Osage Orange sawdust (yellows), cochineal beetles (pinks & reds), logwood sawdust (purples), madder root (orange) and ground indigo (blues) are some of the dyestuffs that I use.

The loom is warped. The warp are the parallel threads that are held in tension during the weaving process.

The rug is woven using the design, the dyed wools and the warp.

Completed, the rug is cut from the loom and placed on the floor for finishing. All yarn and warp ends are woven back into the body of the rug.

A custom rug will take approximately six to eight weeks to create.
